Prayer Letters

Dear Partners in Prayer,

Thank you once again for your faithful support of the ministry God has given us. We know that He is blessing this collaborative effort. We continue to involve ourselves more in the ministry where God haas put us, and I was able to preach several times at the church plant we are attending here in Athens.

We are using the Greek we learned in Cyprus and I liken our progress in the language to climbing a hill -- when you get a couple hundred feet up, you can really enjoy the view! But if you turn around, you see Mt. Everest behind you, and there is much more climbing to do! We were really able to practice more Greek during the week we spent at the Hellenic Ministries Family Camp. We were also given an evening session to share what God is doing with the Church Planting Institute in Nicaragua, and the vision God is bringing into focus for church planting.

We are most excited about a church in a city called Larisa (pronounced Lárisah).  It is a passionate soul-winning church, and they long to reach the villages around their city. On one of our visits, they took us to a Gypsy village where they have been working for several years, and where they would like to start a church. God has orchestrated so that this year, Operation Joshua will be distributing Bibles in the villages around Larisa, preparing the way for follow-up visits like those we have been doing in the Peloponnese, going door-to-door asking, Did you receive a Bible? Are you reading it? Would you like to study it with someone? This has provided opportunities to return to these villages for regular Bible study, with the potential for church planting. To date 926,820 New Testaments have been distributed to 4,412 villages in the islands and on mainland Greece. This summer, the 500th year anniversary of the Reformation, we will be distributing the “one millionth” Bible.

You can be involved yourself in this summer’s Bible distribution project by praying, by being a volunteer July 5-13, or by purchasing Bible packets (containing a New Testament, a pamphlet of explanation, and an attractive gospel tract).  You can find more information at www.operationjoshua.org.  A Bible packet costs about $2.50, and you can even “ADOPT-A-VILLAGE,” a great project for a Sunday School class, a small group, or a Vacation Bible School project.

Please continue to pray about our visa situation; the lawyer here in Athens cannot understand why our paperwork is not being accepted. Because we don’t have a resident visa we are not able to get a rental contract, and have ‘lived’ in 7 different places so far this year, and will be moving again this week. Good thing we pared down to just suitcases when we left Nicaragua! Please pray for much-needed stability in life and ministry that a long-term visa would bring.
